About China
Chinese Sign of Zodiac
The Chinese sign of zodiac is distinguishable different from the astrological signs known in the Western Hemisphere. 12 animals with characteristic attributes, each of them representing one cycle of the sun year. This system has been already constituted by the old Chinese astrologers, over more than 3.000 years ago. Even today, many still belief, that astrology might influence their personal destiny and therefore maintain old habits or rituals, to avoid demons and/or to boost happiness in life. These 12 animals are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Boar. They symbolize certain human attributes or predict one’s fate in reference to harvest, wealth, career, friendship and partnership. The traditional Chinese proverbs are quite interesting in this respect. People belief, that the years of the horse and of the goat will bring them ideal weather and plentiful harvests. If people who are born in such years get married, they are very likely in for a happy, lifelong bonding… People born in the year of the tiger avoid getting married with somebody born in the year of the dragon because the eventually would fight each other most of the time and always try to dominate the spouse, holding up a high self esteem, hence disrespecting the other partner. If somebody is born in a particular sign of zodiac, this person wears in every respective animal year, hence every 12 years after birth, his or her personal “Benmingnian”. In this particular year one wears a red belt, a red coat, red socks, to fend off demons. For instance: If somebody is born in the year of the rat, than every year of the rat is the person’s year to wear red. People born in different signs of zodiac are supposed to vary in their characteristics as well, i. e. it is assumed, that somebody born in the year of the dog is considerate and reliable, but born in the year of the ox the person ought to be diligent and well tempered etc. pp. |
