The Forbidden Citi(Zǐjìn Chéng),so called because it was off limits for 500 years, is the largest and best-preserved cluster of ancient buildings in China, it was home to two dynasties of emperors, the Ming and the Qing, who didn’t stray from this pleasure dome unless they absolutely had to. The Forbidden City lying at the center of Beijing was the imperial palace during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Now known as the Palace Museum, it is to the north of Tiananmen Square. Rectangular in shape, it is the world’s largest palace complex and covers 74 hectares. Surrounded by a six meter deep moat and a ten meter high wall are 9,999 buildings.
